Expanding red squirrel distribution in gwynedd

Anglesey contains the largest and most genetically varied red squirrel population in Wales. A decade ago, the first animals crossed the Menai Strait into Gwynedd to colonise woodlands in Bangor City. In 2016, Red Squirrels Trust Wales and partners released a small number of animals in the Ogwen valley to boost the mainland population.

Ehangu dosbarthiad y wiwer goch yng Ngwynedd

Mae Ynys Môn yn cynnwys y boblogaeth wiwerod coch mwyaf a’r mwyaf amrywiol yng Nghymru. Ddegawd yn ôl, croesodd yr anifeiliaid cyntaf Afon Menai i mewn i Wynedd i gytrefu coetiroedd yn Ninas Bangor. Yn 2016, rhyddhaodd Ymddiriedolaeth Gwiwerod Coch Cymru a phartneriaid nifer fach o anifeiliaid yn Nyffryn Ogwen i roi hwb i boblogaeth y tir mawr.
